Sewing Machine *yay*

I am now the owner of an old (pre 60s) Singer Sewing machine which needs a little TLC (rewiring and oiling). From what we can tell it hasn't been used since approx 1995 and was bought for £30 second hand (and refurbished) in 1993 (receipt still taped to the inside of the box).

I am trying to identify the model type but most of the images of Singer sewing machines are too poor for me to identify the features. I suspect that it has been repainted and bodged as it has a retrofitted motor and base unit box thing which is a strange shade of turquoise. I shall noodle around Google for a few days and if necessary post to a mailing list somewhere if I get really stuck!

Once we have oiled it and worked out what kind of bobbins it likes (it doesn't really like the plastic ones my mum had, and she had no decent metal ones) I'm going to try and work out how to make my hands work while sewing in a straight line. My mum has given me some cotton material to play with as well as some bits and pieces which will be useful. There are more parts and extras for the machine still with my mum's friend so I shall hopefully receive those in a week or two.

So. barakta learning to sew. This could be interesting... I'm going to keep an eye out for decent 'manuals' because my mum's intuitive fiddling is going to annoy me - we know from past experience she should never try to teach me anything - that ends in screeching from both of us!
