Loop watch: ASDA again.

May 31, 2006 18:47

I went back to the ASDA on 19th May and the loop aisle was closed. Last night (30th May) the loop system still didn't work.

I went to the customer service desk and their loop system didn't work either.

A letter has been written using the RNID sample letters as a guide. I shall post it later tonight. We shall see what happens :).

I sent my letter to Streatham Odeon.
Last week I got a reply listing all the adjustments they have already made (trained staff, signage, etc, which had all been good at my visit), details of the subtitled screenings twice a week at Wimbledon (about 5 miles away) in case I was interested, and a statement that they had ordered neckloops. The letter was composed by someone illiterate but I couldn't fault the content.

So success I think, assuming the neckloops ever turn up.

I guess the trick is to turn up in 4-6 weeks and ask about neckloops and see if they work or not... My question would also be "Why aren't there twice a week subtitled showings in Streatham" because as I understand it "Go to our other $Place_of_business" is not an acceptable response under the DDA even if that other place was very near by - which 5 miles is not!

I wonder if I will get a list of their "Aren't we great features!" back from ASDA and and reasonable explanation for their inability to work two separate loop systems. My reliable resident ner^H^H^Hgeek says that there was no apparent infrastructure for the Customer Service desk to have an Induction loop - so we shall see what happens.

I think the bit about subtitled screenings was fair enough seeing as it was providing additional info beyond that I'd asked about. If I hadn't already been aware that there are regular screenings in Wimbledon, I would have been very pleased to find out about them ( ... )

To be honest I have given up on loop systems. They either seem to not work or the people don't know how to turn it on, or they don't care or just even deny that its not working and blame me - like they would know whether its working or not.

Usefully at the moment my aids give me enough sound that I don't need to use the loop. So for now I have had that setting reprogrammed to something else (TV/Radio it says on their screen) just to give that a go, when I go back in a few weeks I will probably get it set back to a loop.

Perhaps if I can muster the enthusiasm I will start getting anti about non working loops, as I know I will need them working one day.
