Loop watch: ASDA again.

May 31, 2006 18:47

I went back to the ASDA on 19th May and the loop aisle was closed. Last night (30th May) the loop system still didn't work.

I went to the customer service desk and their loop system didn't work either.

A letter has been written using the RNID sample letters as a guide. I shall post it later tonight. We shall see what happens :).

I think the bit about subtitled screenings was fair enough seeing as it was providing additional info beyond that I'd asked about. If I hadn't already been aware that there are regular screenings in Wimbledon, I would have been very pleased to find out about them.

summarises info on cinemas in the UK. Wimbledon Odeon didn't get funding to install captioning equipment, so Odeon would have had to pay for it all. If I lived outside London, having any cinema within 5 miles would be impressive! I get the impression that Streatham is struggling and may close, like so many town center cinemas. I will phone before going there again.

I suspect there's a portable induction loop under the counter at ASDA that 'will be available on request' - I think such things are useless, as by the time you convey the fact that you need it, you may as well have just asked for what you need! I suspect a laptop for customer and employee to type at each other would be more useful for many more people - or even pencil and paper. I guess that deaf people who don't have the literacy skills to use that generally also don't have sufficient hearing to benefit from a loop.
