Ren Fair Annoyance

My 17 year old cousin is on a fieldtrip today with his history class. They have gone to the Carolina Renaissance Faire. *facepalm* What exactly are they supposed to learn there? Juggling? Bawdy songs? How to bilk customers out of a lot of money

SCA Event = actual potential for history lesson

Ren Faire = actual potential for a giant theme shopping mall with a dash of sci-fi convention thrown in.

No, neither did they have cars, cell phones, running hot and cold water, and fucking planes in the sky. NEVERTHELESS, I think it's reasonably safe to assume that there is more actual potential for a history lesson at an SCA event than at a Ren Faire.

I've seen and been to plenty of A&S classes/displays at an SCA Event. Not once have I seen anything remotely that educational at a Ren Faire.

I don't know. If I'd had a chance to learn juggling and bawdy songs in high school, you can bet I'd've listened to everything the teacher said from then on!
