[ Following on from this announcement, it's time for what movie-makers know as a jump-cut. Cue: West of the Lake. Jack awaits to greet anyone who decides to turn up with a friendly smile. ]

Do me a favour guys, try and keep your spheres turned off?

[ Whether that's effective or not is yet to be seen. When everyone who's going to turn up has ( Read more... )

[ Looking slightly smug: he likes this. He likes it a lot. While he can't actually help much, he can at least serve as the equivalent of Zazu. ]

If there's anyone here who doubts the effectiveness of this, I'm more than willing to give a quick breakdown of the numbers. Using an overestimation of the people here based on a map of the Crucible, anyone can find an estimate of everyone's individual chances*.

You'll see that even with just a couple of trips, they go way up.

Speaking of spheres - for the actual job it might be better to get people who haven't talked about this or anything like it using them. There's no way they're gonna pick up anyone they know thought about stealing their ship unless they really just don't care.

[[ *For those of you playing along at home, all of Yukio's estimates will have a 26.38% error. ]]

[Lyle'd come along to hear Jack out, since he was in the business, as it were, of fighting the power himself. When the little speech is done, he raises his hand nonchalantly.]

If you think it'll work, I've piloted things before. But I'm not leaving if it looks like not everyone's gonna get off this rock.

[ more to herself than you, with a note of affection ] I'm forever doomed to be surrounded by heroic types.

[Well, he heard you, and finds that concept amusing.]

I'm no hero. I just have people that I don't want to leave behind.

Even if it means getting left behind with them?

[leaning against a tree nearby]

This sort of shit is why they're not trying harder to save us.

Because they're too incompetent to come up with practical and timely solutions by themselves?

Agreed.

It's not their obligation to save us. They were doing us a favor.

Getting our hopes up and leaving most of us for dead when they could have just done something instead of screwing around for weeks is hardly what I would call "doing us a favor."

[Presea is there, holding her giant axe in lightly bandaged hands. Having listened to his speech, she speaks in her usual calm, hesitant way.]

I can fight. If there aren't... Better fighters, I will go. If I can take Emil.

I haven't said things, to the sphere.

[leaning against a tree, not looking pleased, but seriously considering anyway]

I don't know how I feel about killing the people trying to save at least some of us. But I'd be interested in enforcing a real conversation for once. I don't want to die here either, and too much of what the Captain does doesn't match up with what he says.

...I agree. I don't want any more casualties. Doesn't matter if it's them or us, I'm not going to take a life either way. It just...

I hate to say it, but if you're resolved not to kill, you shouldn't come along. Whatever happens, we'll come back for everyone else.

Alright. Make sure you guys don't get killed, then. [He's not even sure his kekkai would even work here as a defensive measure, but even then, it'd lock out everyone except him at this rate.]
