Youngjae sat up with a sharp cry. He gripped the sheets tightly as he slowly looked around the dark bedroom, trying to catch his breath and block out the images of his nightmare. It took him a couple of minutes to realize he was still in the bedroom of Jung Daehyun's penthouse. He looked to the other side of the bed but the man wasn't there.

He held his face and closed his eyes. The man had left him after all and he knew it shouldn't hurt but it did. He slowly moved to lie back again, staring into the darkness and letting his mind wander. Everything replayed in his mind again and again. He didn't feel any remorse, any fear - nothing. He just felt numb.

He silently wondered if it was a bad thing that he felt numb or not but the feeling was pleasant. He heard his stomach growl and realized he hadn't eaten in almost three days but he didn't want food. He just wanted the drugs again. Youngjae wondered if that feeling would always haunt him.

He slowly sat up again and threw back the blankets, shivering as the cold air touched his bare skin. It took the man a moment to realize his clothing had been removed. Youngjae sighed softly and reached to turn on the lamp sitting on the bedside table. He spotted a melted ice pack on the mattress beside his swollen ankle. At least he kept his promise about that. The man bitterly thought before carefully getting off the bed. He spotted a robe on the lounge chair across from the bed.

Youngjae got out of the bed, careful not to put any pressure on his ankle. He pulled on the robe, tightening it around his waist before sitting down on the chair, feeling totally exhausted. Every inch of him ached. He was tempted to get back into the warm bed but Youngjae just wanted to go back home.

He scoffed at the thought. That apartment was not home. He wanted to go back to his apartment, to his comfortable and warm bed. He wanted to see his parents again, his brother and Himchan but that wasn't going to happen anytime soon. Not until Jung Daehyun and his men were behind bars. Youngjae licked his dry lips as he thought about how gentle the man had taken him earlier.

It had been so gentle but there was still a coldness there. It was just sex; nothing more and nothing less. He felt so weak as he stood up from the lounge chair and slowly walked to the door before pulling it open. The living room of the apartment was dimly lit by the large flat screen TV. He felt surprised when he spotted Jung Daehyun standing in front of the large window.

Youngjae softly cleared his throat but the older didn't respond. He took a moment to simply look at the man. His posture was so calm, so relaxed. He watched as the man reached out and touched the glass, almost as if he was reaching out to grab the world in front of him before dropping his hand back down to his side. The younger furrowed his brows, wondering what was going through Daehyun's mind.

Daehyun turned around and stared at him for a moment before speaking. “You're awake.”

The younger nodded his head, unsure of what to say. The man turned back to the window. Youngjae swallowed thickly before hesitantly walking over and standing beside Daehyun. “You shouldn't be standing.” The man said without looking at him.

“It's okay.” Youngjae quietly spoke.

“Were you scared, Youngjae?” Daehyun suddenly asked, finally giving the younger his full attention. Youngjae looked at him in surprise. He didn't want to admit he had felt scared but he slowly nodded his head anyway.

Of course he had been scared. He was human, after all. Youngjae sighed heavily. He'd thought that all of his training had prepared him and that he was much braver. Actually doing a case like this was completely different. It wasn't anything like training. The man realized how foolish he had been to think something like this would be easy. It wasn't. It was literally taking everything out of him, emotionally and psychically. The man thoughtfully stared at him before looking back out the window again. Youngjae really wondered what he was thinking. “Do you ever get scared?” He hesitantly asked.

The man chuckled. “No.” Things went silent again, the only noise was the TV on in the background. Youngjae let himself watch Daehyun from the corner of his eye, taking in just how unguarded the man looked right now. He didn't look like the Jung Daehyun he was used to seeing.

This man was much more peaceful and. . . normal. He quickly shook the thoughts away. He couldn't look at Daehyun like that. “Can I ask you a question?” The older nodded his head and he continued. “Did you get the information you needed from Kim DooHan?”

The older suddenly smiled. “I know everything about that man.” Youngjae furrowed his brows. “This was simply a test. You passed.”

“So, what I did wasn't necessary? It was just a test?” He couldn't help the annoyance in his voice. No one had to be killed; the violence that had happened earlier on could have been avoided. None of that had to happen. Daehyun stared at him with an unreadable expression and Youngjae swallowed thickly, realizing he should have just kept his mouth shut.

“You were the one who came to me.” His voice was calm but harsh. “You know very well what kind of job this is.” Daehyun turned so he was fully facing the younger. They held eye contact and Youngjae felt his throat closing up at how dark the older man's expression was. “If you want to leave, I'll give you this one chance."

Youngjae's eyes widened in surprise. Would Jung Daehyun really let him go just like that? He looked down and thought over it for a moment. The thought of leaving and never coming back seemed so welcoming even though he knew the man wouldn't just let him go like that. He could drop this case and things could go back to normal. “You should leave. You're not strong enough for this.”

The younger immediately looked up and met eyes with him. “I'm not leaving.” He calmly spoke. Youngjae's voice sounded so foreign, even to himself. “I was just overwhelmed. I'm not leaving.” He repeated.

Daehyun suddenly looked pleased. “Good.” He paused for a moment, a smirk appearing on his lips. “I'm glad I don't have to kill you.”

Youngjae stared blankly at him. He wasn't even surprised by the older man's twisted words and in a way, he had expected something like that. He knew his life meant nothing to Jung Daehyun. It hurt more than he was willing to admit. Was this case even worth it? Would he ever be able to gain the man's trust? Or would he always be some fuck toy to Daehyun?

Youngjae frowned deeply before accidentally putting too much pressure on his swollen ankle. He hissed softly and Daehyun sneaked his arm around the younger man's waist. Youngjae tensed up for a moment before almost naturally relaxing and leaning into the man.

He closed his eyes, hating himself for giving in so easily. He hated himself for melting under this man's touches. Youngjae felt Daehyun's arm tightening around him and he sighed softly. He couldn't understand how the man could go from talking about killing him to holding him so tightly, almost as if he didn't want to let him go.

I hate you. Youngjae thought as he rested his head against the older man's shoulder. I hate you so much. He wrapped his own arm around Daehyun's waist. The two lost track of the time, holding each other tightly and gazing out at the illuminated city below them.

Youngjae glanced around the parking lot of his decoy family's hotel. He didn't see anyone but that didn't mean they weren't there. He sighed softly. It had been weeks since he'd last seen or heard anything from Jung Daehyun. He had been instructed by Yongguk to rest and they would call when he was needed.

He knew he should be thankful he had some time to rest and recover but sitting around and waiting was beginning to eat him alive. He couldn't sleep; nightmares kept tormenting him at night. The cravings he was having for the drugs were beginning to drive him insane and his jaw and head would hurt in the morning from grinding his teeth together.

He would lie in his bed staring at the ceiling just waiting for the time to pass.

Youngjae walked inside the hotel, asking an employee where his 'parents' were. He was here to pass information to someone from the bureau. He felt ashamed that he didn't have much information so far, at least not of Jung Daehyun. He did have some good information about Kim DooHan.

He thanked the employee before going behind the check-in desk and into the room for employees only. “Hey.” Youngjae greeted his decoy father.

“Hello.” Mr. Yoo smiled at him. “How are you?” He asked and pulled Youngjae into a surprisingly warm hug before pulling away. “Mom's in our suite.” He turned around and motioned for the younger to follow.

Youngjae scanned the hotel lobby as he followed his decoy father towards the elevators. They stepped onto the elevator, watching as the man pushed the button for the top floor. He let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding once the doors opened.

They walked down the long hall before taking a turn and stopping at one of the doors. He watched as his decoy father unlocked the door and allowed him in first.

“Youngjae!” His decoy mother loudly greeted as she ran to meet him. The door shut and Mrs. Yoo quickly locked it up.

“Alright.” He turned to face them. “Take as long as you need. My wife and I will stay in the other room so you can privately speak with Mr. Kim.”

Youngjae nodded his head and watched as they walked towards the door that lead to another suite. His eyes widened when Himchan stepped inside and stared at him. There were so many Kim's at the bureau, he hadn't expected to see his best friend. In fact, he remembered his father telling them both they would not be working together on this case because he thought they wouldn't be professional enough together.

“Himchan.” He said shakily as he walked over to meet his best friend halfway. He could feel his eyes watering up as Himchan pulled him into a tight hug. He wrapped his arms around his friend, closing his eyes and just leaning against him.

They stayed like that for a few minutes, Youngjae hesitant to let go. Himchan guided him towards the couch. He stared at Youngjae's face and frowned. “You. . . look tired.” He reached out to touch the younger man's face. “How are you?” Youngjae's eyes were downcast as he shrugged. He knew there was no use in lying and saying he was fine because Himchan knew better.

“How did you get Dad to agree to this?” He asked, wanting to change the subject.

“I got your mother on my side.” Himchan smiled and Youngjae couldn't help but smile back. They stared at each other and the older man's smile suddenly fell. He couldn't stand to see his friend looking so frail and sick.

“Stop looking at me like that.” Youngjae playfully pushed him. “It makes me want to punch you in the face.”

Himchan mock gasped. “You wouldn't dare.” The older sighed and reached for the laptop he'd placed under the coffee table. “Let's get the hard part over with.” He said as he opened up the laptop and got the necessary programs.

Youngjae began to talk, telling him the things he'd learned in the last couple of months. It was more than he had even realized. There were also a lot of things he was keeping from Himchan. Things he didn't ever want put into the report. He watched as the older finished up typing. “Done.” Himchan looked up from the laptop. “Anything else?” The younger shook his head. Himchan stared at him for a moment before saving and shutting the laptop down.

Things were quiet for what felt like an eternity before Himchan finally spoke again, his voice barely above a whisper. “That night you called me. . .” He trailed off, noticing how Youngjae visibly tensed. “What happened?” And when the younger didn't reply he continued. “I think I already know.”

Youngjae felt his blood run cold. Did Himchan know he had done drugs? “Are you sleeping with him?” Himchan whispered. He felt relief wash over him - anything was better than Himchan finding out about the drugs. Anything.

Youngjae shrugged again.

“I'm going to kick your ass after this is all over.” Himchan sighed softly before smiling. “You know, you're not supposed to actually do your job, right?”

Had anyone else said that, he would have punched them. He knew Himchan meant no harm with his teasing. It was just something to cover his worry and concern. Youngjae was well aware Himchan was trying to be strong for him.

Himchan looked at his watch and sighed heavily. “I've got to go soon.” His voice was filled with dread. He didn't want to leave, their time together was being cut too short. Youngjae nodded slowly, his eyes downcast. “Don't look so sad.” The older put his hand on Youngjae's shoulder. “We'll see each other again, okay? I'm officially on the case now.”

Youngjae nodded his head. He just wasn't ready to leave Himchan yet but he knew it was for the best. He could feel himself slowly losing control, wanting to admit everything to his best friend. He couldn't do that. The two stood up and things were quiet for a moment as they both tried to think of what to say to each other.

Himchan pulled Youngjae into another hug. “I'm proud of you, you know that?”

Youngjae could feel his eyes getting watery again and he nodded his head. The older pulled away to look at him and smiled. “Don't you dare cry.” Himchan's own eyes were watery. The younger forced himself to smile as he nodded his head again. “See you soon.”

“See you soon.” Youngjae repeated. He watched as his best friend walked towards the door that conjoined the two suites. Himchan knocked on the door and it only took a few seconds before it was opened. The older glanced over his shoulder before walking through.

“You ready?” Mrs. Yoo asked once the door shut.

He wanted to say 'no' but instead he nodded his head. Mr. Yoo opened the door and allowed them both out first before following. The sadness he was suddenly feeling was overwhelming but he shoved the feelings away. He had to be strong.

It would be worth it.

Those words didn't seem to help as much as they used to. He hugged his decoy parents goodbye before leaving the hotel. Almost as soon as he sat down in his car, his cell phone went off. His blood ran cold when he saw the number.

Jung Daehyun.

He shakily answered the call before placing the phone against his ear. “Hello?” He breathed.

Youngjae's breath caught as he was escorted inside an unmarked and seemingly abandoned building. This is it. He thought as he was guided through the dimly lit building. This is where I'm going to die. They know. He met eyes with Daehyun and his breath caught. The older man smiled at him before telling his men to leave. Youngjae stood there waiting, watching as the man pointed the gun at him. He felt numb. He didn't feel scared anymore. He just felt numb as he stared at the pistol pointed at him. Daehyun suddenly turned and fired at something else.

“Yongguk told me you don't know how to use a gun.” He said without looking at Youngjae. He finally realized what was going on and a wave of relief washed over him. He slowly turned to look at the shooting target. Bullseye. Daehyun was, with no doubt, good at handling guns. The older man motioned for him to come over. He walked towards the man. “So, I'm going to teach you today.”

Youngjae wanted to laugh. He didn't need to be taught to use a gun. In fact, that was one of the things he'd excelled in at school. Still, this was working in his favor. Daehyun went over a few things before handing him a pistol and some earmuffs. He sloppily aimed at the shooting target, pretending as if he'd never handled a gun before.

He did it a few more times, noticing how quickly the older man was becoming frustrated with him. He kind of liked making Jung Daehyun frustrated. He liked seeing the older lose his cool a little. He didn't have a lot of patience when it came to teaching, Youngjae quickly learned. He felt Daehyun press up behind him and his breath caught.

The older slid his hand down Youngjae's bare arm, making the younger man shiver. He gently covered Youngjae's hand with his own. He held the younger man's arm steady as he pushed Youngjae's finger down against the trigger.

The gun fired and Youngjae stared at the bullseye. Daehyun held his arm for a little longer before letting go and stepping away. Youngjae couldn't help but miss the warmth from the man's body. He pushed back the younger man's earmuff so he could hear properly. “Hold it steady.” He said before putting the earmuff back into place.

Youngjae nodded his head and turned his attention back to the shooting target. He decided to improve just a little, earning a nod of approval from the older man. He lost track of how long they'd practiced before he finally allowed himself to hit the bullseye. He pushed back the earmuffs before looking at the older in fake surprise.

Daehyun clapped his hands. “Good job.” He smiled at the younger man.

Youngjae murmured a soft thanks, trying to ignore just how much he liked the older praising him. The older took the gun away from him. “We'll come here to practice a few more times this week.” Daehyun gazed at him. “Are you ready for your next mission?” Youngjae stared blankly at him and he continued. “You will be joining me on Saturday. This time it's much more important. I won't tell you too much just yet though.”

Youngjae didn't know what to say so he simply nodded his head. He felt excitement bubbling up inside. Did this mean he was finally gaining Jung Daehyun's trust? “How is your ankle?” The man asked.

“It's okay now.” He quietly replied, looking at the shooting target.

Daehyun stepped closer and took the gun out of Youngjae's hand. Youngjae handed him the earmuffs and he placed them down on the little metal table beside him before pulling the younger into his arms. “I've missed you.” He murmured, leaning down to gently bite at Youngjae's neck.

Youngjae closed his eyes. “I missed you too.” He didn't know if he was lying or not.

“Mmm.” Daehyun murmured against his neck.

“Daehyun.” He called out softly. “Not here.”

The older man moved away and stared at him with an unreadable expression before smiling and nodding his head. Youngjae felt proud of himself for finally being to able to take control again. He liked having some kind of power over Jung Daehyun.

“I have an appointment I need to be going to.” Daehyun murmured. “If all goes well this weekend, we'll celebrate together. How does that sound, hmm?” Youngjae didn't exactly know what he meant but he nodded his head. He looked over his shoulder hearing the door opening. Yongguk poked his head in. “Boss.”

“Please escort Youngjae out.”

Yongguk nodded his head and motioned for the younger man to come towards him. Youngjae glanced back at the older before sighing and meeting Bang Yongguk at the door. “Hi, pretty lady.” Yongguk grinned at him and he narrowed his eyes.

Neither said anything else until Youngjae was at his car. “Hope you're ready for this weekend.” Yongguk smirked. “This is a make it or break it mission.”

“I'm ready.” Youngjae couldn't stand the man's mind games. The older shrugged and turned around to go back towards the building, leaving him alone in the dark. Am I really ready? He wondered before sighing and getting into his car. He could only hope he was.

Youngjae glanced back at the building before pulling out of the rocky parking lot and onto the road.
