bandomrarepair

Our goal here is basically what the title implies - to promote the rarer pairings in Bandom! This is a challenge, where those who sign up must complete 2K by November 15th of any pairing that ISN'T Pete/Patrick, Brendon/Ryan, Brendon/Spencer, Spencer/Jon, or Gerard/Frank. So long as the main pairing includes people from bandom, the sky's the limit!

There is a signup post as well, but this is the questions post. Please read our FAQ first, but if you have any further questions not addressed, please feel free to ask in the comments!

What are the deadlines?
The Signup Post closes on November 1st, so make sure you signup before then.
We'll also be checking in with the writers on November 15th to make sure their story is either already completed, or will be, in time for:
November 23-30th - the week of posting.

Why did we change the deadlines?
Several people had asked, as bandomrarepair was conflicting with a few other challenges, and we've got so many people signed up now we didn't want to flood everyone's flist with 50 posts on the first day of posting.

What do you mean, rare pairings?
Our definition is pretty loose here, but we're looking at the most used and written pairings across the board. For our definition, the only "non-rare" pairings that you can't write are Pete/Patrick, Brendon/Ryan, Brendon/Spencer, Spencer/Jon, Gerard/Frank. Even though there are several other pairings out there that exist in high frequency within their fandoms - such as Ryland/Alex or Sisky/Butcher - we're not banning those because their fandoms are still relatively small. So long as you aren't writing one of the bold pairings, you can write ANYTHING. We're encouraging people to perhaps write outside of what they usually might, but if you just can't give up Pete/Mikey or Gabe/Beckett, then you can still do that too.

We do have one amendment. The main pairing can NOT include a Mary Sue/Original Characters. The main pairing has to be people from bandom.

Does that mean I can't write about the wives?
It doesn't! Our definition of bandom is pretty loose - and we're also including those people ho are associated with bandom, but may not be in a band. The wives are associated, as are people like Nick Scimeca and Matt Mixon. If we've heard of them before, they're probably okay.

Can I write one of those forbidden pairings as a background couple?
Definitely. So long as they aren't the main pairing, it's perfectly fine if you write them in the background.

What if I know I can't post November 30?
We're allowing people to post November 23-30th, so you can post any of those days. If for some reason you can't post that entire week, contact the mods, and we'll work something out with you.

How long does my story have to be?
Our minimum is 2K (2000 words), but you've got two months to write that. It can be as long as you want, or an even 2K.

Why do we need another challenge? Didn't bandombigbang already eat my life?
I love Pete/Patrick, Brendon/Spencer, etc. as much as the next person, but I've been talking to a lot of people lately who enjoy the lesser-written pairings. Besides, isn't it fun to put yourself outside your comfort zone? No one has to participate in this, but if you've ever wondered why there isn't more fic of X pairing, we're hoping this challenge can remedy some of that.

What if I have more than one idea?
We're only asking for one fic from each person, but if you finish your first idea and want to write another one for the challenge, or three, or five, you're more than welcome to.

What if I don't know what pairing to sign up for in the interest list?
That's fine! Even if you include a pairing, you don't have to stick to it. Mostly, we want to make sure everyone understands what pairings you can't write.

Can I write GSF, Brendon/Spencer/Ryan?
For our purposes? No. Adding another person or two to a banned pairing doesn't make it okay. If you think you have a legitimate argument against this, though, ask in the comments. I'm willing to make exceptions, but the point of this challenge is to write things most of us haven't seen a lot of.

I have more questions!
