Having got my start in vidding superheroes (a team of superheroes, no less), I thought it'd be nice to venture into a deconstruction of the genre. What really strikes me about Watchmen is that it shows what kind of people would be most likely to take up costumed vigilantism in the real world and always makes me think, "Hey, maybe it's a good thing this is all make believe." When you think about it, trying to save the world is really a pipe dream. It was fascinating to explore how the different personality types conveniently represented in Moore's characters come to and react to that realization. It's depressing to think about, but in all likelihood costumed capering would turn out badly, for the heroes and bystanders alike.
The first draft of this vid came together in one night, which is a new record for me. I think it helps that I'm a huge fan of the graphic novel. Say what you will about uber-faithful film adaptations, they do make it easier to 'vid' the original source. ;) This doesn't have the action-fueled punch of my typical vid but I'm hoping it can be appreciated on its own merits. :) The guitars were fun to play with though. And preeeetty.
Enjoy! If you're looking for another vid that played at this year's VVC, click the VVC '10 tag on this entry.
