Analogy

Saying race has nothing to do with a significant amount of Obama criticism is the same thing as saying slavery had nothing to do with the Civil War.

obama, race, 2009, no politically correct here

of course it does. But people do mental gymnastics to say it's not.

Well...I think Jimmy Carter tried to point this out and people were like, "Racist? Pfffft, we're not racist. No way."

I agree with your statement.

I understood rallying against the war. I don't quite understand the rallying against healthcare. I mean obviously the current situation isn't helping. And it takes a bit more than governmental control of healthcare to make you a communist country. Maybe Americans are afraid of being *gaspschockhorror* CANADIAN? And the killing seniors thing is hysterical. What do they think Medicare programs are (however ineffective)?

the fact folk are blithely saying socialism=nazism=fascism is astounding, when--hello, history books!--socialist Russia fought on the Allied side against Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. But, let's just ignore facts, shall we?

They've been ignoring facts for a long time. As Colbert says, reality has a well-known liberal bias, and we can't be having THAT!

So true. Pres Carter was just speaking the truth. Even if Joe Wilson isn't racist, the level of disrespect that leads to crazy ideas like the Birther movement is based on racism.

it's really not even subtle at this point.

That's a good analogy. Just like the war, it wasn't the *only* reason - but it was the biggest one, and people kept trying to slap a different label on it. "No, it's about state's rights to keep slaves!"
