Thanks for starting this up! Are we going to have themes, a la Audiography? (I like them because it motivates me to track things down.) It sounds like there was already a vote from Audiography for versions of "Tom of Bedlam"--perhaps madness and lunacy in general? I have one left over from Halloween ("The Haunted Hunter") that I'd be happy to post once I'm officially a member.

Themes sound very cool, providing people know they can post other stuff too. There are only a few of us, and I doubt numbers are ever going to increase that much, so anything that encourages posting sounds great to me. :)

Of course, there's a permanent theme of 'nautical songs for Magpie's collection' ongoing. ;)

Folk is my major music interest. Being real active might be difficult as I've a dial-up connection and it takes about a half hour to download one song. If I can convince the husband to haul the laptop into Mendocino for the wi-fi connection, I'll be able to share.

I have a lot of Irish and Scottish music and a fair amount of Balkan and Russian.

What a great idea for a community!

Hi :) Join the community, and I'll let you straight in. I too am on dial-up, although my download times aren't as bad as yours seem to be (of course, that depends on the size of the song file). Uploading seems to take me about half an hour per 5mb. I've learnt to be very patient. ;)

But activity can be as much to do with joining in discussion as anything else, so don't worry.

Cool icon. :)

I have suggested my husband albionwood join, too. He hosts a two-hour Celtic show on KZYX every other Sunday.

I eagerly await the first theme! (Are we working this on themes?)

If I see that name, I'll let him straight in.

It looks as if we are having themes, yes, and I'll be posting the first one in the next hour or so, but I'm going to stress that people can post about whatever they like (on topic). The theme is just to give impetus. :)

I adore folk music -- particularly of the Scottish and Cowboy variety -- and am always delighted to share, babble, gank from other people and generally geek out over it.

I'd be interested in joining. I'm not exactly a musical scholar, but I have an interest in folk and folk rock, and I'd love to learn about more artists I might not have heard of yet.

heya, i'm not sure if you'll recognize my username so i thought i'd do a little intro. i'm here via audiography, mostly into the irish and scottish variants of folk, but open to hear new things. i love to learn about the stories that the songs tell and the stories behind the songs. i don't know how you'd define "active", so i'm a bit iffy about that (i don't know if i'll be posting more frequently than once every couple of weeks or so...) i suppose it would also depend on the themes (if there are going to be themes). i remember posting about once a day for the 'non-fiction' theme over @audiography, but then i don't think i've posted anything for the past 4 or 5 themes.
