Mapo Tofu two ways

I found this recipe for Mapo Tofu and instantly wanted to try it. I've had it before, and loved the spicy red sauce. The recipe calls for chili bean paste and fermented black beans. The first time I made it, Wegmans neither, and tried to substitute with stuff I already had. Fermented beans are salty, so I used pancetta. I didn't have chili ( Read more... )

Their produce is To Die For, in general. They also have curry-in-a-can that I stocked up on before leaving DC, as it makes for a twenty minute awesome vegetarian meal. (Curry paste + a few veggies, fry, add coconut milk, boil, serve over rice, fancy!)

Seriously, the Super H Mart is reason enough for me to move to DC/Fairfax. Want. Want so bad. Glad the mapo tofu is tasty! All my cookbooks arrived today, but I'm too tired to make anything so I'll try something from them tomorrow or Friday. New cookbooks make me happy.

If you want something quick, Martin Yan's Jade Chicken is great, especially if you really feel the urge to fry mint.
