I think this must be one of the only versions of Robin Hood that I'm completely unfamiliar with - I don't know how many different film versions I've seen, and I've even taken to watching the new series (but mostly because Thornton Richard Armitage is in it, and I'm a very shallow person), but it sounds like I've really missed out on something here. You've certainly made me want to watch it now. And I've never really listened to any Clannad, so thanks for the song - I will be checking it out.

Ooh! You should definitely check it out. It is a bit 80's and cheesy in places, but on the whole I think it is very good. And of its strengths is the way it combines mythical and folklore elements with the historical sources.
I just love who that combination gives it a very mythical and distinct feel.

I find that the Robin Hood story, as well as the King Arthur story, is one of those tales I love watching in different versions - simply because each version ads its own interpretation. Many different spins on the same tale if you like, and yet they are at the core the same.

Also? pretty men (and a woman) with bows and arrows. I have a bow-fetish. It's sad but true. ;)

(but mostly because Thornton Richard Armitage is in it, and I'm a very shallow person)Hee. It's okay to be shallow when it comes to Richard Armitage. You are not alone. But I must admit that I find that Robin Hood version so awful that I cannot watch it, even if it displays Armitage in leather ( ... )

I looveed this show: Michael Praed was my first tv crush. God, the pants they stuck him in - when I was watching one of the DVD features they said that they kept splitting as he would bound through the forest.

this series is obsessed with people being pushed, shoved or jumping into water.

This is because then the damp clothes would cling lovingly to people. I am convinced of it.

Ooh! Poor little Gisbourne and his shrinking chainmail! Hee. But actually knitting "chainmail" for films is quite common - LOTR was one of the few films that actually used real chainmail. You can see it in the way it just looks heavier and clunkier, and how it makes the actors move slower.
(I feel like such a nerd for knowing this...)

HEE! This I can believe, because those pants are tight! Also he runs a lot.
I find the Richard Carpenter commentary to be wonderful - he is all: "ah yes, this is a beautiful shot, and this is quite lovely. Oh, and here is the Silver arrow. Never did like that prop much. It looks like a dildo. The Silver dildo of Sherwood."
Thank you for that image Richard Carpenter!

See - I think this is the best explanation I've heard!
Because really - in the first four episodes there is at least one 'falling into a river or lake' scene in each episode. And then they laugh heartily. Hee.

I have that Clannad album and I have listened to it many, many times. It was only much later that I realised that it was the soundtrack from a series. I'm waiting to find the dvds over here in China so that I can finally watch the series for which the music was composed! :)

Like I said the series is very 80's, but all in all I think it has kept very well. It has its own feel and charm. Also Robin and his merry band are very cute, and Robin and Marion are adorable.

Hee. We had a lot of programs imported from the UK, and they made some fabulous shows. (or at least I think they did.)

And will post right away.

EEEEEEEEeeeee! Indeed! I spent the weekend watching the first series, so I just had too.

And we do need icons. Sadly I've never made an icon in my life,so I have no idea how to go about it. Any ideas?
Also, these above are my first caps of a show ever. Note to self: next time pick a show that isn't as grainy and misty - because capping takes ages!

I babysat EVERY Saturday night for almost a year just so I could watch RoS! I hate kids! :DAs someone who is, what is diplomatically called, sceptical about kids all I can say is: this is true dedication! ;D ( ... )

"Seven Poor Knights from Acre,"

Oh that is a favourite also. I love the opening scene with the knights in white riding through the forest. Then again I've loved the Templars since watching that 80's "Ivanhoe" film with Sam Neil as Bois-Guilbert.
(and by loved the Templars I mean a great fascination. Not so fond of violent, religious people in general. ;P)

We should get alexandral interested! Hee. Only how to go about it? ;D
