Ooh! You should definitely check it out. It is a bit 80's and cheesy in places, but on the whole I think it is very good. And of its strengths is the way it combines mythical and folklore elements with the historical sources. I just love who that combination gives it a very mythical and distinct feel.
I find that the Robin Hood story, as well as the King Arthur story, is one of those tales I love watching in different versions - simply because each version ads its own interpretation. Many different spins on the same tale if you like, and yet they are at the core the same.
Also? pretty men (and a woman) with bows and arrows. I have a bow-fetish. It's sad but true. ;)
(but mostly because Thornton Richard Armitage is in it, and I'm a very shallow person)
Hee. It's okay to be shallow when it comes to Richard Armitage. You are not alone. But I must admit that I find that Robin Hood version so awful that I cannot watch it, even if it displays Armitage in leather.
But did you know that there is a Ridley Scott film coming out called "Nottingham" - which will be seen from the viewpoint of the Sheriff? I probably shouldn't be as excited as I am about this, as most of Scott's films lacks that bit of depth. But they are always so pretty and also I'm a huge sucker for revisionist story-telling. (cue my teenage obsession with Mists of Avalon. But I will NOT go there tonight. ;) )
