The painting is made by John Bauer, the same painter as my icon. I think a fairytale was written especially for this painting - as it was part of a children's Yule-story book. The Prince is on a quest and here he is receiving help from a nisse or gnome. The name of the tale escapes me now, but I'll try to find it.
He is so talented! Reminds me a bit of Iassen Ghiuselev. (I have the latter's Alice in Wonderland print.)
The music is terrific - the first reminds me a bit of Ars Nova, who I studied at university. The second is a great mix of modern and sacred - haunting! And even the traditional one has this lilting quality. Thank you for posting these!
Yay! I'm not a great fan of holiday songs - but these two definitely appeal to me. Perhaps its the mood they give? At any rate I'm glad you liked them.
These are wonderful! They do sound so haunting and winter-y.
Trying to remember my high school Spanish - the lyrics to the first song sound like "Señor (later "Christo") de piedad de nosotros." I think that's something like, "Our gentleman of piety/godliness," but I could be way off even if I am hearing the lyrics right. "Man of our piety?" Whatever it means, it's beautiful.
Okay, will stop spamming after this. My dad has a better translation: "The man of piety/godliness among us." This song is beautiful and is waking my brain up - thanks!
No, No - this isn't spamming! This is very interesting! So please - don't apologize. And I'm thrilled that you like them. I was a little worried about posting songs in Spanish and Norwegian, in such a English environment as LJ. But it seems i shouldn't have worried about that at all! ;D
