I live in Atlanta, so maybe the popularity of Coke cake (it's served at the Atlanta History Center--or it was last time I went, anyway) is based partially on familiarity since Coca-Cola is headquartered here! Yet I haven't tried it myself, so I might need to fire up this recipe!

I knew Coke was headquartered there but didn't really put it together until you mentioned it. Makes sense now!

Pardon me for asking, but...do you happen to be a Boston sports fan? Only the username gives me that distinct impression haha

A) Yum.

B) Soda/Cola ("Coke") cakes are popular where I live - Lake Charles,LA. We have local stores that sell Orange Crush cakes, Sprite Cakes, Root Beer Cakes, and Coke cakes.

Do they taste Coca Cola-ish as well or just chocolatey? I'm intrigued and will be trying these.

Just chocolatey, but the coke makes the cake really light and fluffy. There's a little more of the coke taste in the frosting.

That sounds so yummy. Do you think I could add some actual chocolate or would that ruin the fluffiness? I just got a brand new bag of Callebaut cooking chocolate and I'm eager to use it.

I don't see why not! You can swap and use cocoa powder + shortening if you don't have baking chocolate, so you should certainly be able to use it the other way around.

Heck yes! My grandmother used to make coca-cola cake A LOT when I was a kid -- I've made it once or twice as an adult. Also 7-up pound cake. Soo good.
