Sep 12, 2012 21:22

So, being a student far from home, I decided to make myself a birthday cake. Due to rush, it didn’t turn out pretty, but it sure turned out tasty!

Oh dear. I pressed "detect location" button and failed to check what it shows. For some reason, lj makes it appear as I'm all over Japan. I can get Yokohama, since I'm very close to it, but Kobe?

(Actually, I live in southernmost part of Tokyo. Sorry for confusion.)

Happy Birthday,
and I hope you're enjoying your time in Japan! I lived in Otsu for a while, but never made it to Kobe.
Your cake recipe is very tempting. I think I'm going to try it. The marshmallow bananas go into the filling right? I am not sure I can get choco bananas here. But there are lots of other kinds of marshmallow. I'll experiment a little more. It'll be a completely different recipe when we're done with it ;)

Thank you!
I like it here.
As I said above, "detect location" button tends to place me all over Japan. I usually leave it that way when posting on my journal, and I completely forgot to check it now. Sorry for confusion.
Hope other kinds of marshmallow work out for you! You can take the sponge and put whatever filling or decoration you want. Another thing I often do with this kind of cake is put in jelly confectionery.

Yes, I actually bought a small oven. It's about same size as oven toaster. When big discounts come, they are available in 5000-10000 yen range.

I had problems baking sponge cakes in microwave/oven/toaster combo before, but pound cake worked out nicely. Does your oven toaster allow you to set the temperature? Can the baking dish spin? If it can't, one side will end up burnt.
