Hey! I'm new here and I figured I would share one of the recipes from my brand new cooking blog, bakeddict. I hope you'll like it :)

Yesterday was a national day here, so I figured I would make a traditional dessert with a little twist. Flan is usually eaten with a spoonful of dulce de leche and/or a dollop of cream where I live. I thought making a flan ( Read more... )

Mmm, that looks good! Where I'm from, adding dulce de leche to a flan recipe is common (I've always known flan as "leche flan"), so I'm sure my parents will love this. =D

Same here, and I use a Mexican recipe from my grandma. I just made flan last week with sweet condensed milk (aka dulce de leche) and evaporated milk.

Damn, now I'm craving some flan.

Ooh, it's not that it can't be found anywhere here, but regular flan is a lot more common!

Really? I've never seen flan without caramel sauce (dulce de leche) before. I've always thought of it as mandatory--like, "It isn't flan without caramel sauce, it's just a baked custard." I've never been told that, but it was sort of implied by ubiquitousness of the pairing in my experience.

(On second thought, the first time I saw "flan" on a menu and asked what it was, my dad told me, "It's a custard baked with caramel sauce on the bottom, and then turned over so the caramel is on top and runs down.")

All this is just to say that the pairing is ubiquitous where I live; my surprise is that it isn't the same everywhere.

I actually cannot stand the stuff, but my dad and uncle really like and the recipe seems pretty straight forward :D Might have to make some!

This looks soo good. I love flan. Gotta try this. Just wondering do you have to bake it or can you steam it in a pot on the stove instead.

I would say you can do it on the stove instead, I'm not sure how long it would take though!
