Valentine's Truffles

Jan 21, 2010 00:25

Valentine's Day is coming up! I made this heart-shaped box o' cake and oreo truffles for my boyfriend last year, and finally got around to writing a complete blog post about them. They're so delicious, and the box just added a sweet touch.

I'm tellin' ya, with dipping . . . I almost feel like no one can tell you what EXACTLY will work, because I've had to just experiment: skewers, toothpicks, grill forks, regular forks, spoons . . . I've tried a lot of different tools and techniques! :)

I got a lot of perplexed looks at my audible drooling over these, here in the silent study area. Looks amazing!

I've made Oreo truffles twice... do you have any suggestions on dipping them? Mine didn't turn out as matte-looking as your's and my fingerprints ruined the truffles. (I ended up putting them on a fork and dunking them in.) :(

Hm fingerprints! Were they completely dry before you touched them? I don't touch mine, but wiggle them off the toothpick onto wax paper (using the toothpick to dab a dot of chocolate to cover the hole) and then leave them until they're completely dry.

If they WERE dry and still showed fingerprints, I'd point my finger at the type of chocolate coating. What sort did you use? I use one specifically designed for candy coating called Candiquik.

ACK! I didn't even think to let them settle (maybe I should have put them in the fridge for a bit)! I just rolled them and dipped immediately.
