haha should have expected its by the pioneer lady! she is awesome. i've made the recipe with yeast using her's 2 years back.

Ummm it's not by the pioneer woman! Kendra (My First Kitchen) wanted to give that a try, but since it involved yeast, she based her recipe on America's Test Kitchen. The Pioneer Woman only has the yeast recipe; I've tried that one too, and it totally rocked!

yeast-less wonders! but buttermilk is expensive and the one time i made it from scratch (milk+vinegar) for a recipe, my muffins were hard as rocks :/

I've been using milk and vinegar for years, with no problems... but I definitely get better results with real buttermilk, or plain nonfat yogurt.
