Infinite Crisis: A Tale of Two Luthors

Mar 31, 2007 16:35

Since I'm bored and still not able to do anything productive, I'm going to spam you all with comic scans to take on the herculean task of explaining Infinite Crisis, with a shameless focus on Lex. On two Lexes, actually, because there are two of them in IC ( Read more... )

dcu, scans

It was definitely the saddest death, even though it was a good, respectful way of killing him (compared to Steph!Robin or the Blue Beetle). It messed up the Titans badly, too.

I think Kon might have been my favourite comicsverse character. Only Tim and Bart really rival him.

(But comicbook deaths... well, they never really stay dead, do they?)

Isn't it? And while some books post-Crisis are enjoyable, as a whole, I liked the pre-Crisis DC *a lot* more.

Eee, thank you! I've been so curious what the heck was up with Infinite Crisis (now I just need to find out more about Kon and Lex, I've heard Lex kind of angsts when he dies and such...)

"The last time you really inspired anyone was when you were dead." Oh, Bruce!

"I can give you enough power to get back to that yellow sun..."

--and then he strips umm WHAT now??? So all Luthors have a thing for all Clark Kents, then? "My skin is tingling" - And I thought SV was gay...!!!

Alex has super-theta brainwaves!!! Oh, comics. I should read you just for the delicious, delicious technobabble!

Ack! no!!!! Lex is wearing the purple-&-green-collared...thing...I thought that went out with silver age?! eek! Lex, you were definitely bonked on the head way too many times...

But oh, this does sound sad. (poor Alex! Poor Superboy-Prime, when he finds out what happened to his lover friend! Especially sad if you fan on the villains (dangit! I never meant to become a Lex Luthor apologist. Damn you, SV ( ... )

Kon and Lex is a relationship fucked up by comics lack of characterization consistency. The whole "Superboy is half Luthor half Superman" is a pretty recent thing although Kon has been around for a while. It first was revealed in Teen Titans and then it seemed as if Lex just wanted to use Kon (he had him programmed to follow his orders when he was still a test-tube baby). But then the Titans travelled to this dystopian AU future place where they were all evil (as superheroes usually are in dystopian futures) and Kon calls Lex his daddy there. Then again in IC crisis Lex actually seemed to genuinely care for Kon, at least in a proprietary way (a bit like Lionel). Post IC, Lex had a big Statue of superboy built in Metropolis, which is more of a show of grief than we got from Clark.

"The last time you really inspired anyone was when you were dead." Oh, Bruce!Batman was uber-angsty in the whole lead-up to IC, what with being ( ... )

It is, isn't it? So gay. It's in the "Infinite Crisis Secret Files" book, not in the main issues of the series.

Ohh~ An explaination of Crisis I actually understand. Though it's not like I actually care much, but Kon =(

Did DC not listen during Titles 101 or do they just really liked the word 'crisis'?

DC is above such things as aesthetics and clarity and good characterisation and... pretty much anything. Comics are kind of a go-with-the-flow-and-enjoy-the-crack/pretty-bits fandom.

And yay for making IC understandable!
