I picked up one of the Chronicles of Narnia books to read recently (at my parents' house, so I haven't gotten any farther with it since). It was the second story with Eustace and the one that comes after the most recent movie, The Silver Chair. I remember liking Eustace when my parents read me the books as a kid. He's such a brat at first :D I like Edmund's redemption in The Lion etc too!
Arabella's plot does sound remarkably like Pride & Prejudice. What makes it different or keeps it from being a total copycat, do you think?
And it's true, Miyo doesn't show up on mangaupdates at all! On a French site I came across, it looked like maybe the work was created especially for the French publisher? I don't know if I read that right.
"What makes it different or keeps it from being a total copycat, do you think?" The characters. Arabella is the eldest and she's warmer than Elizabeth. She's not quite intellectual like Elizabeth. Mr. Beaumaris is more sociable and a huge flirt compared to Mr. Darcy who's cold and aloof. The way the heroes got wrapped around the heroines' little fingers are different, too. Mr. Darcy doesn't have a conversation with any dogs :P (well, the readers get to read about Mr. Beaumaris' thoughts a little) I enjoy both very well and differently. The characters are in a friendlier terms than that of P&P. In short, the main things are similar but the details and how things end are different, if that makes sense.
"it looked like maybe the work was created especially for the French publisher?" Oh, thanks. I didn't know that. I must check to see if there is a Japanese takobon. Btw, good luck with your coming up deadline.
Edmund is supposed to be utterly unlikable. The story is an allegory for Jesus Christ's sacrifice for the sins of mankind, including the vilest and most unlikable of sinners. If Edmund wasn't vile and unlikable, it wouldn't be as good an analogy. That's one of many reasons we don't like the movie so much. But thanks to Aslan's sacrifice, Edmund was able to repent of his sins, and become totally awesome. And that's how the Atonement works. Tadah!
It did. He started feeling sorry as soon as he betrayed everyone to the White Witch, and then the script added this fox character that Edmund was able to be helpful to. They were clearly trying to make him more sympathetic, which is understandable, but misses the point.
