Happy New Year 2012

1. The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. First sentence: "Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy."

wiki

Written by C.S. Lewis

Some points:
- book on CD borrowed from LBL (B), this one was read by Michael York.
- I must say I didn't like Edmund very much. Good thing he was somewhat redeemed.

Bottom line, will continue.

2. Arabella. First sentence: "The schoolroom in the parsonnage at Heythram was not a large apartment, but on a bleak January day, in a household where the consumption of coals was a consideration, this was not felt by its occupants to be a disadvantage."

Some points:
- borrowed from LPL (B) after reading this review of meganbmoore
    - I see a lot of similar between Pride and Prejudice and this book.
  • The hero said something mean about the heroine who overheard it and was out for revengegetting even (?) :)
  • the hero was in love and proposed but was refused! served him right!
  • the heroine was in love but didn't want to admit it
  • the hero saved the heroine's sibling!
- I really like the grandmother :) she's the only one that can set him in his place! I wish there was a scene when Arabella met with her. She reminds me of Mrs Penstemmon in Howl's moving castle and the way she bullied her daughter reminds me of Darcy's Aunt! :P I wish there were more scenes of hers.
- Arabella's mother is calculating but she's not at all like Elizabeth's mother.
- I also enjoy the scenes when Mr. Beaumaris talked to his dog!
- I'm glad that they see each other as they are a big flirt and a penniless.

Bottom line, reread? definitely, I'm thinking of getting an ebook in the interest of saving space. Recommend? Yes.

3a. 1 volume of Miyo.

wiki
Author's Manga Updates, since I can't find the series there!

Story and Art by Nami Akimoto

From Kana

Some points:
- By the author of Ultra Cute - which I haven't read.
- It's about a girl who's moved to France 7 years ago from Japan and now moving back to Japan.
- Fast fun read, nothing deep nor memorable.
- It's a good thing that she's not waffling. I really don't like waffling characters!

Bottom line, this is actually for tween!

3b. 2 volumes of Alice the 101st (101人目のアリス - 101 Hitome no Alice).

Manga Updates

Story and Art by Chigusa Kawai

From Doki Doki website
Vol 1: Mondonville Music Academy attracts thousands of elite musician applicants from around the world, but only 100 students are accepted into the program each year. But this year, Alistair Lang-who has no formal music training and is unable to even read a music score-is somehow accepted into the program as the 101st student! His classmates wonder how he even made it into the program, and proceed to treat him like an outcast, calling him, "the 101st". One day, during a violin lesson, Alistair steps up and begins to play his violin...
Vol 2: Cute but fumbling Alice is up to his ears in homework and half-remembered melodies, but with a crucial concert only days away, he has no other option than to team up for tutelage with…his would-be rival Max?! Sure, Alice’s performance of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” isn’t expected to bring the audience to their feet, but he just may find a shimmering secret deep within its familiar notes!

Some points:
- Borrowed from ILL
- there are a lot of intriguing points after the second volume and around Vick. He seems to have something mysterious regarding many other characters, the Diamand brothers, Max, and Georges!
- it's a bit similar to La Corda d'Oro!
- currently 5 ongoing, but there is no new volumes listed on Doki's website nor amazon, so I wonder if that's on hiatus!

Bottom line, not sure.
