Hahaha!!!! I know what you mean with the lettering in Cipher! I can't remember (and can't check-boo hoo!) if it continues through the whole series... but yeah, bothered me too. I have often been tempted to scan a page of manga, re-letter it, and print it out and insert in the book. Haven't done it yet though. Glad you like the art of it! Old-looking art seems like it can be a turn off for so many readers, even if the story is worth it once you get used to the art. I've come to love retro-styles as well

Re Cipher's lettering, I think it bothers a lot of English speaking readers! It seems to me that there are 2 letterers working on it. There is this one page that I remember, 1 bubble is doing the vertical letters, the one right next to it is horizontal letters. Interesting. I think old arts are pretty in their own way.
" I think it is really interesting that Kazuha's perception of him in v1 influenced your own opinion." That would be my guess why he annoyed me so much that I didn't want to continue with the series. I'll continue this series 2 or 3 books at a time.
"is that Oyayubihime Infinity? LOVE that series!" Yes. Please tell me more :)
"The "Destiny Thief" idea behind the story was really interesting to think about." Yes, I like this one better than Sleep, the switch there is a bit abrupt. I agree, it was a good ending.
I thought that the vertical-lettering was done when the bubbles were really narrow and the words wouldn't fit well horizontally. As I've encountered this in lettering, I know it's annoying to work with and sometimes it is easier to make the word run vertically... but I would ONLY do this if it's a single word (at most two words, one above the other) and there's no other way. Readability should always be the goal for the letterer

"I thought that the vertical-lettering was done when the bubbles were really narrow and the words wouldn't fit well horizontally." That wasn't the case on the very first page of vol 1 - since the words are on top of the art. But, you may be right, I don't do lettering so I don't know for sure. The letterer for Skip Beat is great. She also does Honey and Clover :)
"Oyayubihime Infinity" I like characters with glasses, too. That's one of the reason I picked up Honey Hunt. I remember reading a review on this series, and the reviewer had some complaints about the ending. I'll read the first volume for sure :)
Aww, volume 6!! I cried too. I still cry whenever I reread it. Ahh... In some ways I think the story really gets going with the next volumes. I think you'll be meeting one of my favourite characters in the series pretty soon... :)

"Aren't libraries great!!" Totally, I have a list to borrow from library: Red River, Boys over flowers, S.A, Kaze Hikaru, ... and the list is growing.
"she's not related to Kazuha" I must have misread the story, then. Isn't Ageha working at V.B.R because of Kazuha's wedding? - I did. I always thought that Kazuha is Ageha's older sister. That's why I was a bit confused when Kazuha showed up later. I need to remember that Ageha's sister is Hibari :) Thanks for straightening out the characters for me. Oh, so that's where Rei belongs, too. I tried to place him but I couldn't.
"Maki" Which family does this Maki belong to? He's Rei's best friend, right?
"I think he and Kazuha have a really neat relationship, and I like seeing that in the manga." Me, too.

Hee, glad I could straighten out the confusion!! Yeah, Kazuha is Hibari's hairdresser. And Rei is the tiny adorable brother in IHY♥ who ends up as the sarcastic friend in VBR. That personality change/development is endlessly amusing to me :D
No, Maki=Sugimoto. Kazuha never uses his given name (even when they're married!!), but I like to :D If it helps, just remember, Maki and Saki rhyme. And his other brother is Yuki. They all got the "-ki" from their dad's name. (Oh, and Rei's friend is Shizuya, who is Mitsuya's brother. They share the "-ts(/z)uya")
Kyaaaaah you're going to borrow Kaze Hikaru!!!! My other most favourite manga everrrrrr!!!!

"Dark Mizushima" gives him more depth, I think.
