I feel like being (semi-)bilingual gives me an odd overlay to my understanding of the world. Sometimes an English word will sound a lot like an unrelated Hebrew one, and I'll realize that the meaning of the word in English has been subtly colored by the Hebrew word.

I heard an academic talk recently that delved into the etymology of "translation." It was fascinating, although I think I might already have packed my notes from it. :/
