Cold as charity...

A lot of people give to charity at around this time of year, so I just thought I'd make a post saying DON'T. (it started as a snarky reply to a snarky comment, but I figure I'm better than that...)

Personally I'd be wary of giving to any charity. A lot of them are downright frauds and the whole sector is riddled with dodgy practices such as Read more... )

Oh golly! I have always had my doubts on charity work in this country... My first experience of charity work was in Paris in our equivalent to soup kitchens, and I saw first hand the good of it...but working at an RSPCA shop at present I must say I have a few slight concerns\doubts...poo... :'( I want to live in a better world darn it!

Soup kitchens are pretty much the only charity I'd support right now. I know from personal experience that the money is going to the right place rather than into the pockets of executives, and it does put the wind up the fuckers who are responsible for the existence of that level of poverty in the first place.

I worked for a local charity for a few year, first as a volunteer and then as a paid employee. The charity does a lot of good (went to see for myself) and it's a good cause but some of the managers were money-grubbing scum who treated the shop staff as borderline slaves. It's changed (in some ways for the better) and I still support them since I know where most of the money goes.

I currently volunteer for a charity, but it's not the same as what you are talking about.
