Windows internet explorer 9

A word of advice about Windows Internet Explorer 9:

AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!

It's complete and utter crap - I wound up with it on my computer and couldn't do anything with it that I normally do, it took me the best part of an hour to find a way to get rid of it again! Thank god for restore points.

New does not automatically mean 'better'. *hugs ( Read more... )

I'm hopeless with computers, I just tend to use what came with the computer, which would be fine if they didn't change things and say they're better, when they just are NOT!!!

Anyway, no idea what firefox is or how to get it, but I'll certainly consider it if windows tries to force an unwanted change on me again. Grrrrr!

firefox is another browser. if you do a search for firefox in google, you'll come up with a link to download it. it's freeware (free to download). I have version 3.6 but I'm on a mac. Sam, my hubby, uses both Firefox and Google Chrome (google's web browser) for work. I've used both, but I prefer Firefox. I'm used to it, and comfortable with it.

I use Internet Explorer at work, and there's no tabs, it's slow and from what i've heard IE9 is ridiculous. Half the websites aren't compatible. I work in a government call centre and about 1/3 of the calls we get are from our customers calling to say they can't access the website anymore when they log in - and it's because they've upgraded to IE9 and we have to tell them how to make it compatible. Stupid Microsoft.

It's comforting to know that it's not just me and my lack of technical ability that finds IE 9 ridiculous!

Since other people seem to like firefox, I'll have to download it when I can find the time. I already have Google Chrome, so that's one I can (possibly) use if IE starts messing me about, so I'll get firefox too and try them both, see which I find easiest to use. Being a technical dunce and resistant to changes is not ideal where computers are concerned! I adapt poorly to new things and situations, especially when I'm comfortable and know what I'm doing with the old ones!

May I recommend Google Chrome? I've been using it for a while now and I absolutely love it to pieces. :D

Hmmmm, I think I have Google Chrome somewhere, just never had occasion to try it - I'm really not technically-minded so I tend to stick with what I'm used to....

Yep, there's a shortcut on my desktop, I'll give it a try if I have any more problems! Thanks for the advice =)

Right now, I'm back using what I had before - I know how that works!

I am jumping on the 'Google Chrome is GREAT' bandwagon.

I cannot stand using IE any more, and have set all my "default browsers" to Google Chrome - for some unknown reason, I just cannot deal with firefox... But yeah, Google Chrome is great. :)

All advice gratefully welcomed! I'll try both, once I've got firefox downloaded (and probably when I'm a bit less hassled and can concentrate - workmen are not good for concentration!), then see which I find easiest to use. I'm okay with the old IE for the moment, at least I know what I'm doing with it, but the new version is just an unmitigated menace!

*also throws in a vote for Google Chrome* I've been using it for a while and for me, it's been great. :D

=D

I have Google Chrome already, though I haven't tried it yet. I'm gonna get Firefox too, then compare them when I have some time and there aren't workmen crashing about! I'm not very clever with computers so I'm just relieved I managed to get back to what I had before - it'll tide me over until I decide which of the others I'm going to make my default browser.

Sadly, no, except for Brett who is unfortunately young enough to be my son! (Mind you, so is Ianto!)
