When Ianto had first joined Torchwood Three, the tourist office front had been hardly more than a dingy hole in the wall, with a few outdated leaflets on display and an air of borderline disuse.
He’d soon changed all that though, cleaning the place up, making it more inviting, re-stocking the leaflets and guidebooks with up-to-date versions, and setting up a display carousel filled with postcards. He’d even put up a few shelves, stocking them with the kinds of trinkets that appealed to tourists: keyrings, decorative teaspoons, snow globes, plush toy dragons, button badges… Putting some effort into it made all the difference, and the sign up on the Plas hadn’t hurt either.
While the tourists still didn’t flock to it, and there were inevitably times when it was closed for several days in a row, at least now the place was a more convincing cover for the Hub’s secret entrance.
It was a proud day for Ianto Jones, proprietor, when the Welsh Tourist Board awarded him his first certificate of excellence. He’d turned the small kiosk into a thriving business, and the tourists he’d assisted clearly appreciated his encyclopaedic knowledge of the Welsh capital.
Not bad for a sideline.
