“Why d’you even bother treating this dump like a real tourist office?” Owen grumbled as Ianto made haste to lock the door and put up the closed sign before pressing the red button to open the Hub’s secret entrance. “It’s not like tourists ever find it.”
“That’s where you’re wrong,” Ianto replied, chivvying the medic into the corridor leading to the lift and following as the wall closed behind him. “I had two lovely families yesterday, and a young Australian couple on their honeymoon. The bride’s grandfather emigrated from Cardiff sixty years ago. Apparently, he passed away last year, and she wanted to bring his ashes home. He never got used to the Australian heat.”
“Huh. They just walked in an’ told you all that?”
“Yes, Owen. It’s called having a conversation. People on holiday like to chat with the locals, learn a bit about the place they’re visiting.”
“Don’t know why people bother coming here on holiday. If I was them, I’d go somewhere sunny and hot, not to one of the wettest places on earth.”
“Wales has beautiful landscapes, and a lot of history,” Ianto defended the country of his birth.
“Yeah, you just keep telling yourself that.”
