Television, or something similar, is apparently a universal concept, so here Ianto is, sitting with Jack in their hotel room, enjoying room service food, and watching the vidscreen.
Ianto doesn’t know the language, and Jack is doing his best, in between mouthfuls of food, to translate, but the show is still baffling, to the point where Ianto’s understanding just enough to be sure he doesn’t have the faintest idea what’s going on.
“Ziphlutz, that’s the one with the blue crest, is angry because hir littermates are refusing to help build hir an egg cushion. They don’t approve of hir chosen triad, because Zirphitz, the one with the yellow crest, wanted to bond with the junior triad member, but zhe only has eyes for Ziphlutz.
“Okay, so I get there’s some jealousy going on, and that the littermates are shirking their familial duties, but why are they dancing?”
“That’s not dancing, they’re having… let’s call it a catfight.”
“How can it be a catfight when they look more like birds? And it still looks like dancing.” Ianto sipped his drink, frowning at the screen.
“Except they’re all trying to claw each other with the barbs on their legs.”
“Violence solves nothing.”
