“Spring at last,” Dee said, blinking in the bright sunlight. “I was startin’ to forget what the sun looked like.”
“I know what you mean,” Ryo agreed, joining his lover at the top of the stoop, one hand shielding his eyes against the dazzle of light reflecting off wet surfaces. The previous night’s storm had finally blown itself out.
“Kind of a shame we gotta go to work. I’m tempted to call out sick.”
“We can’t do that, Dee. Someone else would have to cover for us. Besides, two more days at work and then we’ve got two days off.”
“By which time it’s prob’ly gonna be rainin’ again. That’s all we’ve had this year so far. Snow, rain, gales, more rain, ice storm, yet more rain…” Dee sighed. “Then we get the first decent day in the last three months and we’re workin’. Don’t seem fair.”
“Practically everyone else in the city is probably thinking the same thing, but someone has to work.”
“Yeah, I guess so. Welp, might as well show unwillin’.” Pulling out his car keys, Dee headed down the steps and unlocked the Charger. “If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll be out on the streets all day.”
