Summary: Giles realises that rather than her abilities as a Slayer being hampered, Buffy draws strength from the people who surround her.

A/N: Double drabble.
“No man or woman, or girl for that matter, is an island,” Giles mused to himself as he poured a cup of tea. It was curious the things that popped into one’s head late at night, and yet the thought wasn’t quite as random as it might have seemed to anyone else.
Taking his tea over to the desk in his small office behind the library counter, Giles sat down, sipping the steaming brew thoughtfully.
Perhaps that was what the Watchers’ Council had been doing wrong all along, taking their Slayers out of school, keeping them isolated from social interactions, and dependent on their Watchers. How could any young person be expected to thrive under such conditions? What would they have to live for if all they knew was duty and obedience?
Slayers were stunted emotionally even while being honed to the peak of physical fitness. Living weapons, with their humanity repressed in an effort to make them more efficient.
Well, not Buffy. Her heart, her emotions, were her strength, while her friends provided support and encouragement whenever her courage faltered. Being around people every day, living her life, was a constant reminder of what she was fighting to protect.
