Once upon a time, Ianto had wondered how his teammates could thrive the way they did on the many perils of their job. Going up against all manner of unknown dangers, putting their lives on the line for the sake of people who would never even know, never mind appreciate their sacrifice, just seemed foolhardy to him, even before he almost got chopped up and eaten by a bunch of cannibals.
How times had changed. Now he was a fully-fledged field agent, and as much of an adrenaline junkie as everyone else on the team. Rounding up Weevils for tagging was one of his favourite hobbies, and he was always in the thick of it when the team had an invasion attempt to deal with.
What had changed? He didn’t have a death wish, nor did he think he was somehow immune to the dangers that threatened. He’d simply learned to set such concerns aside and focus on the job, trusting that the skills he’d learned would be enough to keep him among the living.
He couldn’t deny the rush he felt when knowingly putting himself in danger though. He’d never felt more alive than when he was risking everything.
