A/N: Double drabble.
What should have been just another Rift retrieval was going downhill fast, or more across the hill if Ianto was being strictly accurate. It was a good thing the SUV had four-wheel drive, since they’d had to leave the road to reach the arrival coordinates, but right now an anchor might have been more helpful.
“Brake!” Ianto yelled, clinging to the dashboard.
“I AM!” Jack yelled back, his right foot jammed on the brake pedal as hard as possible. He wrenched the handbrake up too, for all the good that did. The SUV continued across the slope, travelling almost sideways.
Jack turned the wheel, stamped on the accelerator, but although the tyres churned into the grass and stone of the hillside, the SUV didn’t change direction. Finally it juddered to a halt with a loud clang.
Ianto gave a sigh of relief, loosening cramped fingers from their death grip. “What the hell happened?”
Jack got out and went around to the passenger side, skidding the last few feet.
“We have a problem.”
“What is it?” Ianto opened the car window and peered out at Jack.
“At a guess, the most powerful magnet that’s ever existed.”
“You’re right, that’s a problem.”
