Dee was still shaking a little as he accepted the cup of tea Ryo had made him. Most of the time he was a committed coffee drinker, but the last thing he needed right now was caffeine to set his nerves further on edge. Sweet tea was supposed to be the thing for shock, so he hoped his lover had put plenty of sugar in it. Taking a cautious sip of the steaming brew, he sighed; he should have known Ryo would get it right.
“Thanks, babe. And I don’t mean just for the tea.” He managed weak smile. “I almost shot that kid! Would’a done too, if you hadn’t spotted that it was a prop gun. God, if you hadn’t reacted as fast as you did…” Dee didn’t want to think about what would have happened if Ryo hadn’t stopped him from firing. He would’ve had an innocent life on his conscience.
“We got lucky.” Ryo smiled back, looking a bit shaken himself as he sipped his tea. “Some prop guns are so realistic it’s near impossible to tell them apart from the real thing. If he’d had one of those and not…” Ryo trailed off, shaking his head. “It’s a miracle I spotted that it was all one piece, no moving parts.” The basic shape had been right, but the cylinder of the fake revolver had been a solid piece of metal with nowhere to load bullets. The only way it could have harmed anyone would have been if it was used as a club.
“What was he thinkin’ wavin’ it about like that?” Dee couldn’t get his head around the stupidity of some people.
“I doubt he was thinking, just messing around with friends from the drama club.”
“God save us from brainless high school kids.”
“Amen.”
