A/N: Double drabble.
The knock at Giles’ door is unexpected. At this time of the night there’s really no reason that someone would visit him; he hasn’t made many friends since he moved to Sunnydale. Still, he answers the door because it might be a neighbour asking to borrow something, or… well, it might be important.
Outside, in the pool of light shed by the wall lamp, stands a group of familiar young people, Xander and Cordelia, Willow and Oz, and…
Buffy.
After months of chasing after mirages, ghosts, possible sightings, his Slayer is standing before him, looking smaller and more vulnerable than he’s ever seen her, and for the longest moment Giles thinks he must be imagining her, dreaming, or hallucinating. Xander is babbling something, but Giles tunes him out; whatever he’s saying is unimportant compared to the reality of having Buffy back, safe, and very much alive.
Perhaps he should be angry with her for running away, abandoning her duty, but he’s too relieved for that.
“Welcome home, Buffy.”
Her smile is tentative and unsure, but Giles steps back, opening the door wider, inviting everyone in.
He can be Buffy’s Watcher later; right now he’s just grateful that she’s come home.
