A/N: Double drabble.
It was late, and Bikky was supposed to be asleep, but he was thirsty, and he could see from the light coming under his bedroom door that Ryo was still up. Slipping out of bed, the boy went to the kitchen for a drink of water and found Ryo sitting at the table, head bowed, and shoulders slumped. In the six months since Ryo had taken him in, Bikky didn’t think he’d ever seen his foster father looking so miserable.
“Ryo? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, everything’s fine.” Ryo sat up straighter, wiping away tears with the back of his hand.
“Did I do something to upset you?”
“No.” Ryo shook his head, turning to face the boy. “I was just thinking about my mom and dad.”
“You miss them, like I miss dad.” It surprised Bikky a bit that a grown-up could still miss his parents.
“I do. They’ve been gone a long time, almost ten years, but it still hurts, especially around Christmas. That’s when they died, so it’s not a happy time for me. It brings back a lot of sad memories.”
“I’m sorry.” Bikky hugged his foster father. “We’ll both be okay though, ‘cause we’ve got each other.”
