Following his usual routine, Ianto finished making the bed, then went to open the curtains, flicking them back and taking one brief look outside before groaning and quickly pulling them closed again. “I don’t believe this!”

“Did you say something?” Jack came out the ensuite bathroom following his own morning routine, stark naked, and towelling his hair dry.

“It’s snowing!”

“What?” Dropping the wet towel on the bedroom carpet, something that would have normally had Ianto yelling at him to pick it up and put it where it belonged, Jack strode across the bedroom and threw the curtains wide. Ianto’s neighbours would have got quite an eyeful if anyone had been out in their garden, but thankfully, owing to the weather and the early hour, nobody was.

“It’s snowing!” Ianto repeated, not that Jack needed telling since he was standing right in front of the window and could see it for himself. The garden behind Ianto’s little end of terrace house was already thickly carpeted, and big, white, fluffy flakes were drifting gently down with no sign of stopping anytime soon. The clouds hung low and heavily burdened overhead.

“Wow, it’s really coming down, isn’t it?!” Jack sounded awed, but Ianto couldn’t seem to get over the shock.

“It’s still November, and it’s snowing! We never get snow this early in the winter! Technically, it shouldn’t even BE winter yet!” It didn’t usually snow until January or February, and even then, it was seldom this heavy, what with Cardiff being on the coast.

“I heard you the first couple of times.”

“What?” Ianto turned to Jack, so taken aback by the unexpected weather that he didn’t even seem to notice his lover was standing in the window, in full view of anyone outside, with nothing on, not even so much as a towel for the sake of modesty. Then again, the words ‘modesty’ and ‘Jack’ weren’t a natural fit.

“I think we can both agree that it’s snowing; you don’t have to tell me again.” Jack didn’t bother looking away from the window; the falling flakes were almost hypnotic.

“But when I checked the weather last night, today’s forecast was for light rain showers, not a blizzard! Just getting to the Hub in this is going to be a nightmare!” Ianto complained. Then, just in case Jack had forgotten, “It’s November!”

“It’s beautiful.” To Jack, snow was by far the best part of winter.

“It’s horrible! It’ll be cold, and wet, and slippery, and we have to go out in it! I can only pray the Rift will stay quiet today, because trying to locate some random bit of Rift junk in this would be next to impossible!” Ianto fretted.

“You’re panicking over nothing.” Turning from the window at last, Jack wrapped his arms around Ianto, who reciprocated, welcoming the comforting hug until he belatedly became aware of something.

“You’re naked!”

“Not my fault. You started freaking out over the snow before I could get any clothes on.”

“You’re naked and standing in front of the window!” Ianto pushed Jack away. “How many times do I have to tell you…”

“Would you calm down? No one can see me through that.” Jack pointed at the heavily falling snow. “I could go outside and dance around the garden like this and nobody would see a thing.” He paused, looking thoughtful as he considered the possibilities.

Ianto knew exactly what was going through his lover’s head; at moments like this, Jack was easy to read. “Don’t you dare even THINK about it! You’d freeze your… toes off.”

“I could put my boots on first.”

“Jaaack…”

“Alright, fine, no naked snow dancing. It was just an idea.” There was a faint tinge of disappointment in Jack’s voice.

“A bad one, like most of your ideas are. Now hurry up and put some clothes on while I get breakfast started; we’ll need to be on our way to the Hub as soon as possible. Driving conditions are going to be awful; the roads won’t have been gritted yet. No one was prepared for this!” Snatching his suit jacket from its hanger, Ianto hurried out of the bedroom, leaving Jack standing by the window, staring out once more at the falling snow.

He sighed. “First snow of the season. Am I the only one who’s happy about it?” Reluctantly tearing himself away from the pristine winter wonderland outside, Jack started to pull his clothes on. “I wonder if there’ll be time to build a snowman before we leave…”
