The life of a Slayer is interesting, but complicated, and sometimes terrifying, but that’s mostly for the people who don’t know what a Slayer is, or that vampires and demons are real, not merely myths and legends.
Sometimes Buffy tries to remember what it’s like to be a normal girl who can go to the mall, the movies, the funfair, or out for pizza without ending up in a life-or-death struggle. It’s probably no consolation to anyone else that this kind of thing happens to her all the time.
She doesn’t even know what kind of demon this is, just that it’s greenish and warty, and the chances of it showing up at the ice-cream parlour for a root beer float are slim to none. Grabbing the kid on the stool next to hers, she shoves him towards the back of the room.
“Everybody get behind me!” Her voice is loud and commanding, but a couple of older boys apparently don’t like taking orders from a girl and go on the offensive. They’re lucky they just get thrown across the room.
Buffy grabs a stool. By the time she’s done, the demon’s hardly more than a smear on the floor.
