“There’s nothing out here,” Buffy complained as she and Giles prowled through the woods outside Sunnydale. “Just a lot of trees, and bugs.” She swatted at something flying around her head. “Why’d we have to come out here anyway?”
“Have you forgotten the Miklosh demon you spotted last night?”
“The one that got away? How could I forget? It cost me a really cute pair of shoes, that heel is never going back on.”
“Let that be a lesson to you; heels are completely unsuitable for patrol.”
“I wasn’t on patrol, Giles; I was out with my friends. Anyway, what does any of this have to do with being in the woods in daylight?”
“This is the sort of place a Miklosh would take refuge during the day. If we catch it while it’s sleeping, we can keep it from causing more trouble.”
“It wasn’t exactly causing trouble when I saw it. It was raiding a garbage can, and there’s still nothing out here.”
“We can’t be sure of that.”
“All we’re seeing are squirrels! Unless there’s such a thing as a squirrel demon. Are there squirrel demons?”
“No, they’re just squirrels.”
“Then we’d better look for the Miklosh elsewhere.”
