Most of the time when Jack made his way to the roof of one of Cardiff’s tallest buildings, it was to brood, staring up at the stars and wondering where the Doctor was, when he’d be coming back, and why he’d abandoned Jack in the first place. The psychic girl had said the century would turn twice before he returned, and now here Jack was, six years into his second new century on earth, and still no sign of the Doctor.
He’d been waiting so long, trapped on earth, longing for the stars and the life he’d known before. Aboard the TARDIS with Rose and the Doc, he’d thought he’d found his home, but then they were gone, and he’d been alone.
“I’m not alone anymore though,” he reflected. “I’ve made a life here, I’m doing something important, protecting Cardiff, and I have friends, people who depend on me for guidance.”
Did that mean when the Doctor eventually showed up, Jack should remain in Cardiff after he got the answers he needed? Then again, the Doctor had a time machine.
‘I could go with him, have him fix me, and be back almost immediately. My team might not even notice.’
