“I hate fighting with you,” Jack said wearily once he and Ianto had run out of breath and insults. They’d been yelling at each other for a good half an hour and were now both a little hoarse.
“So do I,” Ianto admitted.
“Why do we do it then?”
“Because we’re both stubborn and want to be heard. Sometimes yelling seems like the only way to achieve that.”
Jack pouted. “It’s stupid.”
“No argument from me.”
“Oh, so NOW you don’t want to argue? Couldn’t you have decided that half an hour ago?”
“But I did want to argue earlier. When I tried talking to you, I couldn’t make you listen.”
“I’m listening now.”
“Yes, wonderful.” Ianto grinned sheepishly. “Only problem is, after all that yelling, I don’t remember what we were fighting about in the first place.”
“Huh. Neither do I. So what do we do now?”
“That depends. Are we still fighting?”
“No, I don’t think so.”
“Good, then shouldn’t we be making up?”
That drew a smile from Jack. “Now that sounds like an excellent idea.”
An hour later, tired and sweaty in Jack’s cramped bunk, Ianto sighed contentedly.
“The best part of fighting is making up.”
