“Hey, look!” Dee exclaimed as his eyes adjusted to the cool dimness inside the pub. “They’ve got a jukebox! Wonder if there’s any good music on it.”
“Why don’t you check that out while I get our drinks and order lunch?” Ryo suggested. They’d left their rental car at the guesthouse after checking in, deciding to take a stroll through the village and find somewhere to eat. There were a couple of cafés on the main street, but they’d passed those by, looking for somewhere with a bit more British character, finding it in this quaint pub, tucked away down a side street.
By the time Ryo had ordered draught beer and ploughman’s lunches for them both, Dee had already piled some change into the old-fashioned jukebox, whose records matched its vintage, and selected several familiar oldies from the list.
“Listen to that; takes me back to when I was a kid,” he said, as Ryo joined him at a table with their drinks while their food was being prepared.
Ryo smiled appreciatively. “There’s so much new music around these days, it’s easy to forget about the older stuff.”
“We can take a trip down memory lane while we eat.”
