Jack had to admit that no one was better at handling him than Ianto. Even the Doctor didn’t have the level of control over Jack’s behaviour that Ianto could boast.
Through a system of rewards and punishments, Ianto had trained Jack to complete his paperwork on time, be more or less polite to people in authority, although the level of politeness depended on the circumstances, and to follow most of earth’s driving laws unless there was an emergency situation that required him to drive a speed with the SUV’s lights flashing.
Unlike the Doctor, Ianto had never tried to curb Jack’s flirting because he understood that was just the way Jack was. A Jack that didn’t flirt wouldn’t be Jack at all, which was unthinkable.
Cold, cheap instant decaf was the worst punishment imaginable, while various sweet treats, kisses, and sex constituted the best rewards. Jack could be compelled to do almost anything, and be on his best behaviour even with obnoxious government officials, when he knew what he’d get if he misbehaved.
Jack didn’t even object to being handled that way, but the best handling was always reserved for after the rest of the team left for the night.
