“Look what I found!” Jack hauled the bulky old monstrosity into his office and onto the desk, displaying it proudly.
Ianto raised an eyebrow at the old reel-to-reel tape recorder. “That’s what came through the Rift?”
“What? No! That’s still in its containment box in the SUV.” Jack gestured back towards the garage. “I just happened to pass a jumble sale on my way back, so I popped in to see if anything suspicious was up for sale. Didn’t see anything alien but then I spotted this beauty and I just had to get it! Isn’t it fantastic?”
“Not the term I would’ve used.” Ianto eyed the battered lump of outdated machinery dubiously. “Even if it still works, which seems unlikely, it’s not exactly going to be useful.”
“That’s where you’re wrong! I have three crates of tapes recorded by Torchwood’s medics back in the thirties and forties that never got typed up. Full of all kinds of useful medical information.”
Ianto groaned. “I suppose you want me to use this and transcribe them.”
“Of course not! Medical notes, Ianto, made during autopsies. I thought it would give Owen something to do instead of wasting his time on computer games.”
