[Returning to the Manor- correction: filthy, decrepit Manor- means one thing: The return of cabin fever. But it's slightly different this time. It is to Light's extreme delight that Mello's name has been taken off the Blackberry contact list (and is therefore dead again!), and that the Author has seen fit to comply with the removal of one owl-eyed

Should it, Light-kun? One place is as good as the other.
[[There's a rustling of belongings as he's undoubtedly stacking gross things in order of gross to least gross.]]
Checking up on me, are you?

A joke, Ryuuzaki. You have yet to develop a sense of humor. And if I were, would it be improper of me?

Ah, my mistake then. I'll work on that.
[[He shrugs, realizing that Light can't see him.]]
No, we're friends, aren't we? Light-kun?

Of course. [Light's turn to lie now, but L didn't need to know that.] I highly value your friendship. [It's true, to an extent. Light had thoroughly enjoyed their little game.] I had no idea it was reciprocated.

Unless we can prove our efforts aren't selfish then it'll be difficult to get anyone to support any kind of order or even cooperate.

It's thinking time, which means Near is now twirling a strand of hair. This Yagami does not know who he is back in his world, but he has already met L. Otherwise, he would not have sent such a heavily encrypted text message in response to what Near assumed to be the L mask he wore that day he first arrived at the manor. Of course Kira must be curious to know just who Near is. He already knows of his connection to Mello, so there's a good chance he suspects him to be L's successor or at least in some ways connected to the Kira case. Was it merely coincidence that he decided to contact Near immediately after Mello's departure?
Well, in any case, there's at least satisfaction in knowing that Yagami was the first of them to break and contact the other.]
Of course we are. [Nearspeak translation: "Your assumption's so obvious it's retarded."] We've spoken before after all.

The fact remains, however, that the Author herself has eliminated one possible advantage Near has. The conclusion, then is that Light would be quite stupid not to take this chance ( ... )

If this Yagami already knows that Near is from his future, then revealing a date shouldn't cost Near anything unless Mello had mentioned specific events to Yagami in the past. However, he trusts that Mello would not have been that careless as to just spill everything. Near could have given a straightforward answer then. There's no reason not to tell the date, but where's the fun in that?]
Heh. The author has control over different worlds and time frames, different versions of the same people and perhaps different dimensions of their realities. That the dates of my world corresponds to those of yours is as arbitrary an assumption as any.
[There's some clattering noise in the background as Near digs through a pile of robot parts. Upon returning to the manor from alien planet week, his old toys have mostly fallen apart.]
I wonder. What could Light Yagami possibly hope to gain from asking such a trivial question?
