30 Days of Fic Writing: Day 4

4. Do you have a “muse” character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn’t about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?

Every initial writing venture on my part is sparked by one thing, and one thing only: sexual attraction. Even if I chose to lead with the female ( Read more... )

LOL I love that you admit to this so openly XD.Can't say my writing is so heavily driven by sexual attraction (my reading more so, I'd say), but it took me a while to admit that this element is there. Idk, it seems important to me, mostly because in my first fandom, this kind of attitude was shamed.

I don't think I understood it for a long time--it was a way to explore sexuality safely, and I'd been doing it for a long time before I realized what I was doing. Then I started to pay attention to the ebbs and flows of it--just like my monthly cycle. There are particular times of the month when I'm much more sexually inclined, and those are the times I write the best sex. It's all biology! LOL.

So people in Harry Potter Fandom aren't sexual? Or they just don't want to admit they are?

The Harry Potter fandom in English is oversexed. But my corner of Polish fandom in 2005-2008 was dominated by a very vocal group of people in their 30s and 40s who wouldn't have any of that ~juvenile fixation with sex ;). We were supposed to write ~ambitious literature ;). Also, it was all happening on a forum, and there was a special, locked section for R-rated fics. You had to apply to have access. Which made sense, because at the time, there were so many kids in their early teens participating in that fandom! Shielding them was a must -- the mods didn't fancy getting mail from very angry parents. But it also meant that the possibilities of exploring sex were somehow limited, and most people wrote gen.

LOL, what English speaking fandom ISN'T oversexed? Same problem, different day is all. Ha. But looking out for the kids is good, for sure.
