"What did you call for, anyway?"

"Oh! Right. Dad wanted me to give you a ring and double-check you were still coming down here over the break."

Souji was almost expecting a hug - or a fight - but the cousins just shared a handshake instead, Yukari keeping one hand on the strap of her bag, almost possessively. Yosuke turned and started introducing them; 'Yukari Takeba, his cousin through their mother's once removed sister or whatever'. Yukari made pleasantries with the whole group, seeming to make an impact on Yukiko and Rise straight away; she seemed to know exactly how to deal with Yukiko's politeness, and immediately complimented Rise on how good she looked in her last photoshoot before the hiatus. Kanji got a suspicious look, and Souji...got a look he couldn't decipher as she turned towards him, extending a hand ( ... )

They spoke for four minutes after that before the next customer came in. Souji decided to call everyone together at the food court after school the next day ( ... )

There was a lot of history behind Yukari's powers, apparently; it hadn't happened like this, but Shadows had happened before. A gigantic tower on Port Island, a special power that only those with the potential could see, death itself awaiting them at the top. A boy with the same powers as Souji - and it was all there in her eyes, in the slight dip of her head, in the faint strain in her voice as she talked about it that this boy was the one who had unlocked her full potential, brought his heart closest to hers - who had given it all up to protect the world. Yukari carried a great burden and covered it up with smiles. They really were alike. Souji watched as she shouted a warning to Yosuke as they rounded a corner inside the fluorescent hallways of Marukyu Striptease, the two working together in surprising tandem. For all their arguing, they seemed very close ( ... )

I loved it anon <3 Yosuke and Yukari's interactions were really sweet and IC, and I cracked up pretty hard at how Yosuke's first reaction to "I know about Personae" is "DON'T HIT ME PLZ DDD:". Oh Yosuke. You wrote her in well without it being too jarring or awkward-sounding. Thank you for indulging my headcanon!~

Adorable. ^^ I've always wondered what it would be like to see Yukari interacting with the team. Seeing her as family is icing on the cake. XD I applaud this fic and if you wanted to write a follow-up, I would consider us all lucky. ;)
