Mountie Moving In [text]

It would appear that, in my pursuit of one of the less upright members of Chicago, Diefenbaker and me have been stranded in this city. I would have preferred a less... urban setting, but one should never look a gift horse in the mouth, as they say. A new environment is always refreshing. It keeps one sharp ( Read more... )

Why would anyone sleep in the-

There are plenty of empty rooms at Latimer and Horton. Marshall may have some room as well.

As for the police station, if you need directions, I can give them to you.

Which rooms are least used by other citizens? If those are the only places to find shelter, I feel I shoud let others go first.

That would be most helpful, thank you kindly.

The... ones that are empty? We're not really short on space right now. There's only a few hundred people in this city and one apartment building would be more than enough to shelter the entire population. If you're worried about taking up unnecessary room, I'm sure there are people who would have you has a roommate.

Okay, where are you right now? I have a map in the library.

I wouldn't want to inconvenience anyone, of course.

I'm on the North-Northwest side of the park.

You should go to one of the apartment buildings.

I suppose I would find the landlord somewhere in any of these buildings?

Um, I don't know if there are really landlords... Harry Mason takes care of Marshall, but you don't have to pay rent or anything.

I see. So one simply... moves in?

From what I glean, the police force isn't so bad. Except they only really have experience with murderers, not kidnappers or thieves. Wonder if there are any thieves around here...

And. Uh. If you find a place to stay, lemme know?

I suppose in such a small city, kidnapping would be a moot point-- the victim would be found soon enough. And while murder is certainly not a crime that should prevail, one should be glad for the absence of any other crimes.

I have been informed that there are apartments where one can simply move in.

I'd be more worried about murderers over thieves, anyway. And I guess kidnapping is moot, considering we've all been kidnapped already anyway.

Without talking to a landlord? Sounds good to me!

...right you are.

It sounds a little fishy to me, but if it is we'll find out sooner or later.

Here's a fish of another color.

You mentioned America? That's a bit more earthy.

Actually, I haven't seen any fish. Quite peculiar, considering the size and depth of the lake.

It would be, yes. Constable Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police. I first came to Chicago on the killers of my father, and for reasons that do not need exploring at this juncture I have remained, attached as liason to the Canadian consulate. ...and then I came here.

Perhaps I should work on that.

There are other things living in that lake that you should be careful of.

Quite interesting indeed.

I haven't tested the waters yet, so to say. What would that be?

Hm, yes.

It's a damn free-for-all here. No laws, just a police force tryin' to keep the death toll down.

There are always laws. If not stated by a confirmed government, then they are the laws of the people.
