soo... i, being a 20-year old girl not particularly familiar had to make a foray into Autozone today... it was apparently enemy territory ( Read more... )

seriously though, what the hell was with the other guy!

He was asking you very nicely to take cown his name, and to call up the manager and complain about him vigorously. Its quite obvious to me that he hates his job, would much rather be unemployed, and this was a cry for help.

I've been to AutoZone once, and won't be back. I usually go to Kragen but the other day I was backing up and could see in a reflection that one of my brake lights was out. I was right by an AutoZone so I went in, with the bulb, walked to the light bulb section, didn't see an equivalent so I went up to the counter. I waited for about 5 minutes until an employee decided to come out of hiding from the back (there was one other person in the store) I walked up to him, handed him the bulb and asked if he could match it (I knew they wouldn't have the same exact bulb as it was the original and I own a VW Passat, they won't have German light bulbs there ( ... )

Wow, seriously?

I used to work at NAPA and all you had to do was type the the bulb's code in to see if we had it in stock, and if we didn't, we could just cross it over to the brands we carried.

Yea, that's why I brought the bulb to the counter, I didn't expect them to carry the exact bubl, but a aftermarket, which I assumed they would need to look up on their database.
Instead I got what I described. It's a big chain, I don't think they'll be going out of business any time soon, but I for one will be staying with my beloved Kragen.

It probably would've been easier if you just gave him the make, model and year of your car and asked him for a replacement bulb. Then he could've looked it up in the computer and found the product code on the shelf. I only go there for windshield wipers and air filters so I don't know if it would work the same with bulbs, but I would imagine it would.

Although, he was pretty dense for not asking you for the make, model, year info in the first place. Would've made his job a heck of a lot easier and he probably wouldn't have lost a sale.

generaly a good idea when requesting a part from a part store is to be very specific.

say "i need a locking gas cap for a 1996 honda civic" or whatever car you drive.

if you ask for their help they will likely get it wrong (even if its another mechanic getting the part)
places like that have given my dad (a mechanic) the wrong water pump belt for a 1994 VW passat twice in the past. its frustrating.

they generaly look it up in the computer or something. so specifics are good to have. and if you act like you know exactly what you want, they may figgure you know your stuff.

Oh wow, that is not cool at all. Luckly the 2 Autoones near our place have been awesomely fabulous to my wife when she goes in, including going out and helping her test all her lights and making sure she got all the correct ones to replace em with.
AH - one locks... the other doesnt... its not that hard
Thankfully the other guy who was working there helped look up which one i needed for my car... seriously though, what the hell was with the other guy!

Haha, after the nice guy was done helping you, you shoulda turned around and smiled at at the asshat.

Ones an asshat...the other isn't...it's really not that hard

I refuse to go to AutoZone. They built one here and put my favorite Murray's out of business.

Autozone bought a corner lot right next to the Murray's and put up a giant fence so the view of the Murray's is totally blocked from the street.

Assholes.
