Not the worst in the world, but still bad.

Today, after getting home from uni I decided to treat myself to McDonald's. I asked for a Happy Meal, as I always do. They were having Ben 10 figures and I LOVE Ben 10. I wanted the Rath one ( Read more... )

Well, they shouldn't. Tell me what's available and I'll make my own choices.

And no, of course not. I shouldn't have to.

I probably should start doing that. If they pull this on me again I might get nasty.

Huh, they usually ask me boy or girl.

She didn't. She just put the two available "girl" toys in front of me.

If that's all they have left then yeah they'll just put anything with the meal.

Maybe be upfront next time.

They were not the only they had left, so no. It was a case of "this person looks like a girl, therefore I'll give her girl toys".

I will.

Uhm. Did you specify what you wanted or did they ask? No. Then I don't see the bad service.

She didn't ask me. She just presented me with the Barbies.

And you didn't specify either. I'm a girl, I ordered happy meals when I was little (and still do from time to time) and was always given the girl toy. I asked for the toy I then wanted, OR told them in advance. Instead of being snippy after the fact. They aren't mind readers. Fail on them for not asking, fail on you for not simply telling them when you ordered & then being upset over such a "slight".

I did specify when she put the Barbies in front of me. And she gave it to me, while looking super disturbed that I wanted that one.

Our local McD's always asks, "Boy toy or girl toy?" And while it's a tad annoying to have them classified that way, at least the choice is always offered.

They didn't even used to do that here. They'd just show all the available toys and let you choose. Wish they'd keep doing that.

Ours gives one toy of each type away until it's gone, and only then offers another. It's a transparent ploy to get parents to keep bringing the kids in until they collect the set. So in our case, there are only two options.

I feel bad for you guys, to be honest.

If you had asked for the boy toy and she caused a fuss, that would be bad service. This is not. It's not even bad service that most of the time when I order a Happy Meal, they don't even give me a toy since they assume adults wouldn't want one.

Fair enough that you think that. I think both cases are bad service.

Is it bad service if, say, you're at a restaurant and your waiter gives you table water as you sit down, even though you wanted bottled water but hadn't yet ordered drinks?

margerydaw_s2 April 11 2012, 01:52:02 UTC
yes, and I'd probably just ask them to take it back and order the bottled water, which is what I did at McDonald's.
